Overview (CHAPTER 1)

Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) LMS (Learning Management System) works as a Course Management System (CMS) which was created by Martin Dougiamas. Moodle is widely used all over the world where it consists of large community of users and developers.  Moodle is mainly utilized by universities, colleges and internet education and the important thing is it is free to the users.

Benefits & Uses:

Moodle LMS is an excellent way to enhance the teaching and learning process. It can be accessed anywhere in the world.  With the help of Moodle, the concerned administrator can hold the rights to the instructor and students.

There are various roles can be set to the different set of user community in Moodle.  Authentication can be set to the users and access rights can be defined with some proper constraints. The complete details about the users can be stored for a long time with full security.

 A separate course website can be given exclusively for the learners. All the institutional level and academic activities can be done with ease. Moodle helps to bridge the technology gap between the learners and teachers community. Data import and export is possible.

Dynamic Environment:

The user community can be created in a bulk way. The purpose of creating an account for the users is to provide the proper learning environment. The instructor role can be defined with some limitations as compared to the administrator. The instructor can create a course and add the user community in a bulk way. With that separate course website, the instructor can conduct the online classes by sharing their meeting link.

In addition to that, the contents and materials like Text Files, Audio and Video can be posted on the forum. The instructor can provide assignments, chat forums for discussion. Finally the instructor can conduct assessments and receive feedback from the user community. Most of the things can be changeable since it is a dynamic environment.  

Customizable Interface:

The learning environment should be attractive and it makes the user community to get much attention. The administrator can customize the learning environment based on their needs. There are several things can be customized on our own which are themes, colors, language, page appearance, logos, dashboard page.

Moodle Mobile Application:

Moodle Mobile Application services are provided by the Moodle LMS community to all the users. The compatibility issues are solved with this application and users are free to use it in their mobile rather than switching to the web browser.

 

Moodle Reporting:

There are various kinds of reporting and analytics can be performed with the kind of data generated in the Moodle. The user community delivers the data for analysis and Moodle LMS calculates the different set of analytics and returns the results in the form of table based, text based and chart based results. This will help the instructors and administrators to analyse the need in a quick succession.

Moodle Plugins & Blocks:

Moodle LMS offers thousands of Plugins and blocks for the learner’s community. Based on the need of the institution, the administrator can explore and import the Plugins and blocks. Moodle LMS generally offers few standard Plugins and blocks by default.

Event Scheduling:

Moodle LMS uses event scheduling logic for the benefit of learners. An event can be scheduled and it can be sent as a notification for the users and instructors. In addition to this, news events can be given as a notification or roll out message for all the users. E-mail communication about the course information is also applicable.

Discussion Forum:

Moodle LMS offers a common discussion forum for all the users. The users can interact with the group or in person based on the type of question they arise. The course wise chat or discussion forum can be given to the user community for specific or domain related queries.

Other Notable Information’s:

          Moodle LMS provides several features interms of backup and restoring the data. Duplication of activities is possible. Linking different set of activities is encouraged by adding the restrictions. Payment based examination appearance authentication is available.  User details can be filtered with various conditions easily.

Most of the data’s can be downloaded in the form of several formats. Lot of language support can be delivered by Moodle LMS. IP address based access restrictions and timer for the examination can be set by the administrators. Course wise instructors and students can be enrolled easily. Quiz activity comprises of various number of question types like multiple choice, numeric, combined, code runner, drag and drop etc.

Moodle LMS is an effective learning platform where the skills can be developed and it encourages online education for the educational institutions. The kind of support it provides to the user community is massive and there are various developers who collaboratively work each other to deliver all the features based on the real life expectations.
